Yeah, the book was great, but as one guest once said (and I can't remember his name), it's reading the book of a dead man.

Sad, Artie will be dying sooner than later.

I read his book. I really don't know how he is still alive at this point. The guy hates himself.

>> I still like that Artie rants ... <<

Absolutely. He's still a very funny dude. His problems really don't take too much away his talents. In fact I'm sure it adds to his "material" in many ways. Just remember that when he's self deprecating that it's coming from a very real place. It's still funny but very sad at the same time. For instance, his "I know I'm a fat slob" remarks. How many different times and ways can you say this and still make it funny? He says it too much, IMO, for it to be funny anymore.

Notice that Howard isn't so self deprecating anymore (ref. "small penis") ever since he started seeing a shrink? His humor hasn't suffered. It's changed but not suffered.

And ya, I'm waiting for the same thing.

I still like that Artie rants, but I know how most of you feel. Most of the time, i'm not on his "side" anymore (especially the mini one today against Gary). In a round about way, we are listening to a dying man and sadly, we're just waiting for it to happen. Hell, most of the time when I listen at the begining of the show, I'm wating for Howard to say that he has some sad news.

I haven't believed a thing Arte has said for a couple of years now. There is no way he can bullshit a bullshitter. The reality is is that (using Artes words) he's "playing with the houses money". Arte is commiting suicide on the installment plan ...

... and as far as the rest of the "cast" is concerned ... there is a cliche within the program of recovery that is apropos;

"You're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem."

That he is allowed to get away with things that would get the rest of us fired from our jobs/land us in jail (everything from sleeping on the job to the violence against a co-worker) with (seemingly) NO consequence(s) just makes everyone else on the show a partner in Artes disease. IOW there is no "bottom" that Arte can reach that will tell maybe it's time to quit (drugs).

Howard mentioned once or twice, something to the effect of "Arte shouldn't have to lose everything, his money, his fame, etc. to get better ... ". What Howard doesn't realize is that some addicts do ... and that he (and Sirius) is preventing this from happening. So, in effect, they are contributing to Artes problem, not helping.

Unfortunately, I've been inclined to agree. I've started having problems with him since his meltdown with Teddy, his assistant. Artie is in need of major help.

The past few months I've found my self not liking Artie as much anymore. He lies, constantly, and then is outraged when people accuse him of lying. He's become more vicious and spiteful and nasty to people (especially women), instead of funny. I guess these are all side effects of addiction, but he's really just started to irritate me. I use to love him and was always sad when he missed a show, and now I don't even mind if he sleeps through an interview. I mean, his put-downs aren't based on humor anymore, they are based on the very junior high school idea of hatefully taking people down a notch to feel better about yourself. Now when an argument starts up between Artie and someone else, I find myself just turning the radio off for a while. He makes me sad and disgusted.
